Hike #10: Ruby Beach & Kalaloch Camping
February 14-15, 2015
Last weekend Clare, Anna, and I went adventuring to the Olympic Peninsula. We had sunshine and great food and a lot of laughs. It was a really lovely weekend, and I had a great time.
Here are some tidbits and some of the better shots from our two day trip.
We left early in the morning, and stopped in Aberdeen a truly fantastic lunch at Salvadorena. Really great, inexpensive Salvadorian food with wonderful flavor. Absolutely recommended for anyone passing through.
When we reached the coast we set up camp. We stayed at Kalaloch Beach Campground, which was lovely.
We spent the afternoon at Ruby Beach exploring the tide pools. Among the anemones and sea stars we also saw a pile worm, chitons, and various types of mussels and barnacles.
We spent a little time on the rocky beach, letting our feet dry out, building cairns, and soaking up some sun. This was actually one of my favorite parts of the weekend, just some time to absorb the amazing coastal scenery.
We headed back to Kalaloch Beach for the sunset. Better light for photos, and just stunning views.
After dinner we walked to the edge of the campsite, listened to the water, and looked at the stars. And oh, the stars were fantastic. Very high on the list of things I miss about living away from a city. Next time I’ll bring my tripod.
Our morning involved a beach walk and a few stops are various notable trees before another lunch at Salvadorena on the way home.
This was my first weekend away/camping adventure of 2015, and it was wonderfully successful.
Beautiful! I love seeing the pics on your blog…I haven’t seen a rocky beach since I moved down to Florida, and it’s just not the same. Though, admittedly, I don’t miss the barnacles one bit!
Also, I wanted to let you know that I nominated your blog for a Liebster Award. If you’re interested in participating, you can find out more info on my blog. Either way, I really enjoy reading your stuff 🙂

I never used to care for barnacles, really, but my friend Anna, who is a Beach Naturalist among other things, introduced me to those gooseneck barnacles, and I just adore them now!
And thanks so much for the nomination! Let’s see if I can figure it all out. =]
