Hike #38: Quartz Mountain
September 25-27, 2015
Mileage: 4.4 miles roundtrip
Elevation Gain: 800 ft.
A couple of weekends ago Eric and I made the drive out to Mount Spokane State Park to stay in the Quartz Mountain Fire Lookout. I had made my reservations last January, so it was with much anticipation that we hiked in on Saturday afternoon.
The trails are all cross-country ski trails, nice and wide with a fairly gentle grade. It was about a 2.2 mile hike to the cabin, and the views from the summit were amazing.
We spent most of the afternoon in the cabin, enjoying the views all around, as well as these lovely garlands someone had made for the windows.
The cabin was equipped with stove and some dishes, so we made soup for dinner and watched the stunning sunset from the windy peak. I journaled and we read and generally relaxed all evening. It was really lovely.
In the morning we woke early so we could revel in the warm glow and blinding light of the sunrise.
It was just a marvelous weekend with my favorite person.
Oh that’s gorgeous! Fire lookouts are my favorite. When we move back to Washington, I’d like to find a piece of land with a nice view and build a 600 square foot fire lookout-style house. I’d love a second story with a 360 degree view. What a perfect place to read, knit, and relax!
