Hike #47: Ashland Lakes
November 15, 2015
Mileage: ~5 roundtrip
Elevation Gain: 800 ft.
This was a wonderful snowy hike. There was a dusting on the road up to the trail head, giving way to a couple of inches in the parking lot. We suited up in warm layers and wandered along the trail, which was lovely and quiet.
Much of the trail was made up of these neat boardwalks, which were sometimes a bit slippery but kept our feet out of the water on the trail.
The puppy loved the fluffy snow. I think we were feeling pretty giddy and joyful ourselves.
Most of the year I enjoy living in a distinctly snow-free climate, but there are times when I miss it. I occasionally forget just how magical fresh snow can be. And how walking through cold, dry snow is infinitely preferable to chilly rain.
We made it to the first of the lakes, where we enjoyed the silvery surface of the water and the thickly falling snow before we turned around.
Also, as usual, we saw a couple of neat mushrooms.
