Hike #2: Lake Twenty-Two
December 27, 2014
Mileage: 5.4 roundtrip
Elevation Gain: 1350 ft.
The second hike took us to the North Cascades just a couple days after Christmas. It was the type of hike I’ve been craving for a long time. I really wanted something where we could drive to the trail head and hike up into snow without needing equipment. I recognize this is a tall order, so I’d been reading trip reports and trying to find a good spot.
Lake Twenty-Two turned out to be just perfect. The trail was very wet on the way up, but as we crossed the open boulder field we began to see some snow. Towards the top it was extremely slushy, but when we reached the lake it was an image of snowy perfection.
So much life in such a small space.
And so much beauty in the tiniest of things.
It was so still and quiet and lovely. A perfect winter hike.
